Simpsons cartoon fans outraged by bold move

Channel Ten today defended its decision to move the long running cartoon show The Simpsons from its usual evening timeslot to 3pm on weekdays.

gWhen The Simpsons first aired in Australia in 1990, it was an adult satire disguised as a childrenfs cartoon,h said a Channel Ten spokesman, gNowadays, however, The Simpsons is a childrenfs cartoon disguised as an adult satire. We think the move will cater better for the core Simpsons demographic, who would probably be in bed by early evening. The move is entirely appropriate and consistent with the shift in the focus of the series.h

Channel Ten also defended a name change to the series, which will now be known as The Wacky Adventures of  Homer Simpson.  gThere was a need to distinguish newer episodes from the original Simpsons material,h said the spokesman, gFrankly, we donft think itfs in anyonefs interest for someone to view a recent episode of the Simpsons and to assume that this is representative of the series as a whole.h

Meanwhile, Simpsons creator Matt Groening was upbeat about the future of the series, indicating that new episodes would continue to be produced gfor as long as the show remains fresh and relevant.h

Mr Groening was unable to explain how this comment could be reconciled with the last ten years of The Simpsons.
