The
Kangaroo Court of Australia is the world’s most innovative court. The Court exercises superior jurisdiction and
has specialist lists in Flatulence Law, Troll Dispute Resolution and Relationships Law. Court registries are
located in all capital cities across A
brief history of the Court The Court
was originally established in 1996 in order to assist the existing judicial
system in coping with a sudden and unprecedented rise in litigation within the
Australian troll community. For readers unfamiliar with The troll
is, however, a rather litigious creature and by the early 1990s the
Australian court system was experiencing an enormous backlog of work as a
result of proceedings commenced by trolls. As a result, the Kangaroo Court
was established with jurisdiction to hear civil and criminal matters relating
to trolls. Matters are usually initially heard by a single judge and there is
a right of appeal to the Full Kangaroo Court. A further avenue of appeal
exists to the High Court of Australia via a special leave application. The Court expands its jurisdiction Over time
the Court has begun to hear non-troll
related matters. Proceedings can be delegated from either the Federal Court
of Australia or the State Supreme Courts if
there is a shortage of resources in any of those courts. The Kangaroo
Court has developed a reputation for innovation in novel areas of law. For
example, in 1997 the Tasmanian Parliament passed experimental legislation
which expanded the ambit of the Trade
Practices Act to include unconscionable or misleading conduct in the
context of marriage, dating and relationships. The Kangaroo Court now regularly hears
complaints relating to these matters and several of the Court’s decisions
have been criticised in important law journals. The Court has also delivered
some ground-breaking decisions in the area of Environmental law and has been
at the vanguard of the development of
flatulence-related law for nearly a decade. Commencing proceedings in the Kangaroo Court Commencing
